BC Hobbies Build Nights

Hosted Twice a Month

Welcome to Build Night! This is a free event hosted by BC Hobbies, where hobbyists come together to build model kits and hang out. If you like building models kits like Gunpla, armour, tabletop miniatures, aircraft, cars, ships, sci-fi, or anything in between, then Build Night might be for you!

Together, we meet twice a month to celebrate what we love about this great hobby. It’s free to join, but each attendee is responsible for bringing their own tools, supplies, model kits or miniatures.

Attendance is FREE for everyone, but attendees under the age of 13 must have a parent or adult guardian with them for the duration so we don’t have to babysit. Trust me—we’re not qualified for that!

Schedule

Join us for Build Nights from 5:30PM to 8:30PM at BC Hobbies in Hillside Shopping Centre on select days each month, unless otherwise stated here. Please note that seating is limited! If there are any notes or scheduling changes, they will be posted here first, hope to see you there!

Since the operating hours of Hillside Shopping Centre are changing on April 1st, we will switch Build Nights to select Thursdays. The following schedule will always be up to date and accurate, so be sure to check this page!

  Learn

If you're wanting to level up your hobby skills, you can ask a facilitator or other experienced modeller for guidance. Sharing our skills makes us better!

Rules & Guidelines

Respect Others
Maintain an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere by refraining from divisive topics and opinions—this isn't the place for that.

Constructive Criticism
Please do not offer critique or commentary on another hobbyist’s project unless asked, and keep it constructive and supportive.

Accompanied Minors
Participants under 13 must have a parent or guardian present throughout the event.

Mindful Conduct
Given the potential presence of children, please refrain from inappropriate language or behavior.

Photography Etiquette
Obtain permission before taking photos of participants or their projects. BC Hobbies may take photos for event documentation.

Rules About Tools
You must bring your own kits, tools, and water-based acrylic paints. Avoid spray cans, airbrushes, and solvent-based paints for ventilation reasons. Younger modelers must be supervised by an adult when using sharp tools like hobby knives.

Parts Bin Usage and Contributions
The parts bin is a free community resource, and is meant to be shared by all attendees. Please don’t take more than is fair. Any contributions of old kits and leftover parts are gratefully accepted!

Facilitator Assistance
Our facilitators are here to help and give advice, but we can't build your model for you.

Location

Where is this amazing community event located, you ask? Why, at the BC Hobbies Community Event Centre, of course! This helpful (and definitely professionally designed) map will help you navigate.

Bring your tools, supplies and model kit to BC Hobbies on the on the Wednesdays listed above and join in the model-making-mayhem!

*For the month of April 2025, we will be meeting in a temporary space (where The Body Shop was). This is because the Times Colonist needs our Community Event Centre for some fell ritual involving running or something. The map will update on April 1st to reflect it, and then switch back in May for we will be back in the Community Event Space!
