Meet the Professors

A Pokemon Professor is what we call our regular event facilitators. Professors Ironbark, Hazel, Burmis, Sitka and Sandalwood come to the BC Hobbies Community Event Space for a whole day of Pokemon trading where - every kid leaves with cards they like and a special experience they’ll remember.

Your kids (under 12) can bring their cards to trade with the "Profs" (or one another) on select Sundays. Check out the schedule below, or visit our Facebook events page for more information on upcoming Pokemon Trade Sundays! Nigel (Ironbark) started Trade Days to give young Pokemon fans a fun, safe & fair experience.

Professor Ironbark (Nigel)

"I started this group to ensure that kids can focus on just being kids, trying to catch em all in a safe, fun environment. Plus, being Professor Ironbark is probably the most fun I have had in years!"

Favourite Pokémon: Mewtwo, Mew

Professor Hazel (Hailey)

"Pokemon trade day is important to me because I've been a pokemon fan since I was a little kid. I enjoy bringing our younger generation together in a safe, fun space to learn about and trade pokemon cards. I also enjoy letting my inner child relive all the memories I had with Pokemon cards."

Favourite Pokémon: Arcanine

Professor Sitka (David)

"Trade Day is a fantastic opportunity to provide a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience for young Pokémon fans. Cards can be valuable, and we want to ensure all trades are fair and win-win. Pokémon has been an enjoyable experience for my son and I and I look forward to contributing to a safe environment in which other children (and parents) can enjoy the hobby as well."

Favourite Pokémon: Arceus, Charizard

Professor Burmis (Dia)

"So for what trade day means to me: compassion and camaraderie. A sense of belonging and the ability to have fun! No matter what, if you come to trade day, you are surrounded by kind faces and the love of Pokémon, and everyone always leaves with a smile. Smiles are so very important and it is always so wonderful to see them on Sundays."

Favourite Pokémon: Gengar

Professor Sandalwood (Satpal)

"It’s important to me because it was the first place my son Taj and I started trading Pokémon cards. With what I’ve learned, I now get to return the favor by helping other parents and their kids learn, making the Pokémon trading event a welcoming, fun, and safe environment."

Favourite Pokémon: Mewtwo, Ditto

The Story of Pokemon Trade Days

Nigel (AKA Professor Ironbark) started our Pokemon Trade Days event. Let's hear what he has to say about it!

"I remember when Pokemon the trading card game first launched in the mid 90s. I would take my younger brother on many a quest trying to catch em all. I recall the sheer joy on his face as we would find cards that he was missing. Fast forward a decade or two (or three or four…who’s counting?) and I still see the wonder in the eyes of young trainers.

But… I have heard too many tales of them being taken advantage of, either by misleading trades or the ultimate deception…the fake card!!! I started this group to ensure that kids can focus on just being kids, trying to catch em all in a safe, fun environment. Plus, being Professor Ironbark is probably the most fun I have had in years!"
